Run Time: 61 Minutes USA Language: English

Synopsis

A vibrant and truly hilarious documentary, Tomato Republic follows a heated mayoral race in the crumbling town of Jacksonville, better known as the Tomato Capital of Texas. The colorful incumbents, who could each be characters in a raucous Texas novel, include a flamboyant restaurateur, a good old boy and a political ingénue. A barrage of off-the-cuff commentary and sidesplitting behavior exposes the wonderfully eccentric life present in provincial Texas. Add to this the never-ending trains that roar through the town at any given moment and you have a spirited commentary on small-town politics and Southern hospitality.

Tomato Republic was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the 2014 Dallas International Film Festival. Skip Hollingsworth of Texas Monthly calls the film “a marvel By the end of the movie, I was just shaking my head in wonder.”
