Shorts Program 2: Artist Portraits from 14 Pews
with Cressandra Thibodeaux and guest artists
We are pleased to present the theatrical premiere of a group of artists’ film portraits produced by students in the 14 Pews Film Academy 2015. This two-week summer workshop produced several impressive 5-minute works on Houston artists Juan Carlos, You(Genius), Abby Koenig, Wayne Slaten, and Wayne Gilbert. Also in the program are several short documentaries directed by local filmmaker Cressandra Thibodeaux and produced by 14 Pews Productions, which grew out of this summer’s film academy into a production company. The three short documentaries are: HOUSTON COLLECTORS, an 18-minute short doc, which highlights a Houston collector and 4 local artists, JERRY MAKES BLOOD: THE MAKING OF THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, a 20-minute behind-the-scenes documentary of Jerry Ochoa making a horror movie, and PUPPET FEVER a 20-minute short doc highlighting a few Houston puppeteers and the behind-the-scenes of Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre preparing for a puppet show.
The program will be moderated by Cressandra Thibodeaux, Executive Director of 14 Pews, with many of the artists in attendance. Thibodeaux has an MFA from Columbia University’s Film Department. For her graduate thesis she directed a feature-length comedy, SPAMARAMA, THE MOVIE. Since graduating she has directed several short films, three award-winning commercials, developed a comedy show for Comedy Central, won screenwriting awards, received a Macdowell Colony Fellowship and Rockefeller grant. She founded the nonprofit arts organization 14 Pews in 2010.
