Flutter

Directed by Eric Hueber

Run Time: 96 Minutes USA Language: English

Synopsis

This Texas feature, directed by Austin-based Eric Hueber, is a special presentation of the Austin Film Festival. Nine-year-old Johnathan has a degenerative condition that causes his eyes to flutter. His mother, JoLynn, cares for Johnathan alone while her husband, an aspiring singer/songwriter, travels the country in search of fame. To treat her son, JoLynn grows medicinal marijuana, which helps to relieve the painful intraocular pressure caused by his glaucoma. When her absent husband’s parents mount a campaign to gain legal custody of Johnathan, JoLynn is forced to make a decision that will change their lives forever.

With a deeply felt performance from Lindsay Pulsipher as JoLynn, Flutter delicately explores a mother’s struggle to protect and love her son through poverty, isolation, and incarceration. Hueber says that the film was inspired by his late mother, who was only 19 when he was born.
